Two directions into a layer stack
LayerAxon and ImgToLayers can both end with editable raster layers, but the pixels arrive by different routes. LayerAxon generates a new image as independent parts. ImgToLayers interprets the visible parts of an image that already exists.

With separation, the flat image is the evidence. The model decides which visible pixels belong together and creates plausible content for areas that were hidden. With generation, the brief is the intent. The model creates new visual material for each planned role.
That distinction changes how to judge errors. A separated object is measured against the uploaded picture. A generated object is measured against the brief, the composition, and the consistency of the newly created stack.

ImgToLayers matches the task when that exact bitmap must become movable subjects, objects, and background. Expect interpretation, especially at overlaps and hidden regions.
You have an idea, not an image
LayerAxon matches the task when the scene is new and the brief can define subject, environment, props, effects, or other useful layers before pixels exist.
You have a visual reference
Separate it when the source itself must survive the edit. Use it as LayerAxon guidance when you need a new interpretation with independently generated parts.
ImgToLayers strengths and limits
Its official workflow accepts PNG, JPG, and WebP, separates visible content into named raster layers, reconstructs hidden background areas, and offers PSD, PNG, and ZIP downloads. The featured image-to-PSD path lists up to 10 layers.
The resulting stack is newly interpreted. It cannot restore source fonts, vectors, smart objects, masks, or edit history that are absent from a flattened image.
LayerAxon strengths and limits
LayerAxon lets the creator define the editable roles before generation. The visual parts are created independently, then assembled into a layered PSD for further editing.
It is not designed to reproduce the exact layer structure of an existing flat image. A reference guides a new output; generated boundaries, coverage, details, and consistency still require review.
Shared quality gate
Generation invents the scene; separation invents interpretations and hidden pixels. Neither route makes review optional.
Check whether each subject or generated part carries neighboring fragments or loses necessary detail.
Anything newly visible behind a moved object is generated or reconstructed—not recovered evidence of what was originally there.
Every layer should map to a real edit. More fragments do not automatically create a more useful file.
Toggle layers and confirm the complete stack still reads as one coherent image before handoff.
ImgToLayers starts with a finished flat image and separates interpreted subjects, objects, and background into new raster layers. LayerAxon starts with a prompt or reference-guided brief and generates the visual layers independently before assembling the file.
No tool can recover source data that is absent from the flattened image. ImgToLayers can create a new interpreted layer stack and reconstruct hidden areas, but that is not the original document's fonts, vectors, masks, smart objects, or edit history. LayerAxon generates a new result rather than attempting recovery.
If the client image itself must be decomposed for a new edit, the ImgToLayers starting point is aligned with that job. If the image is only creative guidance and the goal is a newly generated layered composition, LayerAxon's reference-guided workflow is the relevant route.
